Currently only 1.1% of UK medical research funding is spent on eye diseases. This
partnership and significant investment from the Medical Research Foundation and
Moorfields Eye Charity will change the landscape of children’s eye health. The funding
and multi-disciplinary approach with rapid translation of research at Moorfields and
UCL will help bring new therapies and better outcomes to patients.

Dr. Ailish Murray, director of grants and research at Moorfields Eye Charity, highlighted the
importance of these projects, saying,
Many childhood eye conditions continue into adulthood and can lead to additional
problems later in life. It’s essential that we invest in research focused on children to help
improve their long-term outcomes and overall wellbeing.
