Moofields Eye Charity - Grants Strategy
A partnership
approach to
funding
By working in partnership with
other medical research funders, we
can increase investment into eye
health research. Through our new
grants strategy, we will explore new
opportunities to pool our resources
with other organisations to fund
research on a larger, national scale.
Professor Jugnoo Rahi is
coordinating a national cohort
study to determine the health,
educational and social outcomes
of childhood vision impairment, to
inform policies and care.
We have already trialled this collaborative
approach through our partnership with the
Medical Research Foundation. Together,
we have invested £3.1 million to fund 11
research projects focused on childhood and
adolescent eye health. This joint funding
commitment aims to improve the diagnosis,
treatment and long-term outcomes for
children with a range of eye conditions.
Sight problems in childhood are often
associated with reduced independence,
loss of confidence, educational challenges,
and mental health issues. Early

intervention and effective treatments
are vital, yet paediatric eye health is an
underfunded area of research.

understand intermittent exotropia,
a common eye condition where one
eye occasionally drifts outward.
