Funding principles
Funding principles
To ensure our grant making is ethical, impactful and strategic, we have committed to
five key principles that underpin this strategy and any grant making decisions we make.
Excellence
We will fund only the highest standards of research and innovation in care.
For Moorfields Eye Charity, excellence means rigorous, ethical practice and
methodologies; bold, strategic thinking; and a clear pathway to meaningful
impact for people with sight loss.
Equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI)
We will purposefully embed EDI into our grant making to ensure the work
we fund involves, engages and benefits the diverse communities we serve.
We recognise that a sense of belonging is vital both for improving patient
experience and the research and clinical workforce.
Patient and public involvement and engagement
(PPIE)
Incorporating PPIE, particularly those with lived experience of sight loss,
is essential to delivering the best interventions, treatments, and patient
experience. We are committed to ensuring that diverse public, patient and
carers’ voices inform our grant making.
Working in partnership
We will need the support, guidance and influence of a range of stakeholders,
including our donors and partners who share our goals, to achieve our
mission. We will enhance our work with other health research charities and
the commercial and public sectors to leverage and maximise the investment
into eye health research. We will continue to advocate for open access
science, sharing knowledge, impact and expertise as widely as possible.
Sustainability
Long-term scientific progress and improved health outcomes depend
on a stable, responsible environment that safeguards both people
and the planet. Embedding environmental sustainability and net zero
considerations as part of our grant making decisions recognises that
human health is inseparable from the health of our environment.
We will
also build and maintain a grants and research team at Moorfields Eye
Charity that can sustainably and flexibly deliver on this strategy.
